Webbla 1.5 private beta 9 released with bookmark migration.

I have just published Webbla 1.5 private beta 9.

This version will migrate the original Webbla 1.4.x database to the new 1.5 format and also unify bookmarks with the same URL.

This is needed as Delicious don’t accept multiple bookmarks with the same URL. On the other side this will solve a main feature request to offer the functionality to detect and remove bookmarks with the same URL.

If you have multiple bookmarks with the same URL in your library, Webbla will unify the data of all similar URL’s.

Please make sure that you have a copy or backup of the original database before you start the new version.

The folder you have to backup is located in ~/Library/Application Support/ and named Webbla.

If migration passes well, you will find an automatically generated backup named Webbla~.sdb in the same folder. In the case that you want to go back and work with Webbla 1.4.x, you must use this file and rename it in Webbla.sdb.

The database from previous beta versions is named Webbla-beta.sdb. So if you want to continue working with your actual beta bookmark library, you have to rename this file in Webbla.sdb.

Please take all needed precautions. Even that we have tested the migration many times and with different bookmark libraries, we cannot give a 100% guaranty if it will work with your bookmark library too.

Tester who have requested to attend in the private beta and did not receive a beta until now will get the new version within the next hours.

Thanks for testing,

Marc

  1. What now that Yahoo is shuting down delicious? What are the options?

  2. It’s not 100% sure for now that Delicious will close.

It was also planned to support http://pinboard.in/ and many other bookmarking services in Webbla.

Delicious sync was only the start.

  3. The beta I was sent 1.5.0.16 did create a file called “webbla~.bookmarkbase” but not “Webbla~.sdb”. There also wasn’t any indication that a migration from 1.4.9 to 1.5 took place.

I successfully added my Delicious account, but nothing is syncing either way yet.

  4. Update: I originally tried syncing using the Yahoo ID method with no results. Using the “Old School” method with my original Delicious login seems to be working ok.

  5. If you are still able to use the “Old School” method you did not associate your Delicious account with your Yahoo ID.

  6. Thank you. I thought I had made the association but apparently not. My mistake.

Is there any way, or going to be a way, to edit global tags? Now that I have imported my Delicious bookmarks, I find that I have multiple tags that mean the same thing, so I’d like to clean those up. Also, misspelled tags, even though they are not being used, are still cached by Webbla and come up in the autocomplete menu, so I’d like to get rid of those.

  7. If you right click on the Tag you can rename or remove the tag. Please consider that Webbla have to update each bookmark with a own request (Delicious API), so if you edit multiple bookmarks (100+ ) at the same time you can be quickly throttled by Delicious.
