Happy Birthday Webbla !

It’s today one year that we have released the first version Webbla 0.9.1. beta 1.

It is an exciting moment when you present a new application to the public and get feedback from users trying your software. Hopefully, we are able to release new exciting applications in future to relive this feelings again.

Today we are looking on Webbla with one laughing and one crying eye.

Laughing, cause we think that Webbla is a successful software product with a lot of potential. In one year we have got more then 50.000 downloads and have over 20.000 registered users.

We have promoted with MacHeistMacZot and MUPromo to give our company and Webbla more publicity as it is very difficult for a startup to be known.
On the other side, we are crying as we would like to see much more functionality in Webbla today which is planned. Webbla has made much progress since our first release till now but we would have liked to let him grow quicker.
Hope our users are happy with the current version and look forward to new functionality which we hope to be able to present with Webbla 1.5 in near future.

We have started with a simple version which allowed to add bookmarks internal, drag them in, and open bookmarks in the system default webbrowser.

Now Webbla uses shortcuts and bookmarklets to add bookmarks and allow to import html bookmark files and folders with webloc files. Bookmarks can be opened with customizable browser scripts and can be organized in collections, smart collections and tag collections. The detail panel on the right, offers a much better functionality as the first version did. The completely rewritten grid view performs much better with plenty of bookmarks and the new introduced tag stripe is a tag selector which many of our users like.

In future Webbla will offer more connectivity with local webbrowser and online services like Delicious and more.

  1. Great to hear about delicious integration.

  2. First of all, thank you for your excellent program. Webbla always was very handy bookmarks manager. It lacked only the integration with Safari and Delicious. Therefore I am very happy to hear about these options in 1.5 version. Undoubtedly Webbla 1.5 will become the best bookmarks manager for Mac.

  3. 2 months on – any progress reports? Really looking forward to this!

  4. Sorry for the delay, but we are still working on the next update.

  5. Love this app. Delicious syncing is the one feature keeping me from using Webbla full time. Can’t wait! Any updates on the progress?

  6. Hi Andy,

    Thanks for your feedback.
We really want to make the integration of Delicious smooth and hope to be ready before the end of October.

  7. Looking forward to 1.5. It would be nice if the tags could be OpenMeta-compatible. As things are now, I can see Webbla bookmarks in programs like Leap, but the tags I added in Webbla don’t show up, and I have to tag again if I want to be able to browse Webbla bookmarks by tag along with other items.

  8. One question. Somewhere in your site I read about apps for iPhone. Am I missing an app? I did not see it anywhere. Are they coming?

    Cheers

  9. Yes there are coming.
We have planned to make a App which seamlessly integrates with Minco. Also a Client for Webbla and other cool things. What it makes difficult is that we would like to make our apps accessing data from a server backend. We don’t want that our user have to press any sync button. When you start the app the data will be there. We are evaluating Google App Engine and consider to use it as backend.
But our next step will be definitively the release of Webbla 1.5 with delicious support.

  10. Great to hear about Delicious support. Once this in, it will be my bookmarks manager on the Mac!

  11. Is there any news about when delicious support will be released? Thanks

  12. Yes there are good news.

We have made much progress in the last weeks and have planned to start with a beta at the end of this month.
During this week I will publish a small video that you can get an idea how delicious sync will work.

  13. Will the beta be available to most of Us or Just to some people?

  14. Everyone is be free to request a copy to start working with, but Webbla 1.5 will start with a closed beta in the first weeks. Depended on the feedback I will allow more and more user.

I am thinking on a special version which will not affect the main database.

This will protect our user, not to lose information or end up with an empty bookmark library.

The first open beta which is planned after 4 weeks will work with the original database and include all the necessarily details to validate and modify existing bookmarks.
