Apple App Store for iPhone available in Mauritius

We are more than happy that finally after over one year of waiting, the Apple App Store for iPhone is also available in Mauritius. If you come from Europe or USA you will smile on this, but it’s really a pain to live here in Mauritius and don’t have access to services which are normal all over the world.

Orange ( Yes, Orange well known from France is the company making the ADSL, phone and mobile business here in Mauritius but don’t ask me how good they make it – this is another story ) where talking about a workaround on their official website.

They suggested people to create a US account on a false address to be able to download free iPhone Apps. What a bad and illegal thing.

Happily, we did not have to do this, as we have  a legal address in Germany we were using to access the App Store.

But now all these kind of problems are solved and Mauritius and 12 other countries, Armenian, Botswana, Bulgarian, Jordanian, Kenya, Macedonian, Madagascar, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Tunisian and Uganda have access to the App Store.

Stop, not full access. I have just given it a try and to my astonishment there is still no way to purchase paid Apps in the App Store. You can only access the free Apps and this is very poor after one year waiting.

I hope it will not take again one year until Mauritian people can access paid applications specially when I think on the iPad which I promise a huge success here in Mauritius and all over the world.

I am some sceptic on the words from Steve Jobs saying in the keynote in January that the iPad will be available in Mauritius from April. (World wide should include Mauritius)

So Apple, do your best and give us the rest.

Also access on songs in the Apple iTunes Store would be really appreciated.

  1. Really happy for Apple users…just need to buy an Iphone 3G S now!

  2. Don’t buy now. I think there will be something new very soon.
